Friends, we have before us a quiet week of astrology, only five planetary aspects. The week starts sweetly but gets rougher next weekend. Mars is moving but still deep in Gemini, so frustrations that could turn violent, that may have become acute when Mars entered Gemini in August 2022, will finally ease as Mars leaves Gemini March 25. Mars in Cancer can be aggressive, especially in battles over definitions of home, but the amplification caused by Mars staying for an unusually long time in Gemini will ease. Only one of three major astrological changes in March. We’ll cover the others below.

Sun Jan 29 sun trine Mars is exact at 5:45 PM. About a half an hour later Mercury trine Uranus is exact. The first can be energizing, but with that frustrated Gemini Mars it’s all too easy to get aggressive and to imagine enemies. Using this energy constructively to improve our surroundings and our well being, or to help out someone, is better than fretting over events we would not even know about it if they weren’t on the news or in a feed. It’s good to try to understand what is happening in the world. But with sun trine Mars doing some practical good can help us recharge and heal from the long doldrums of Pluto in Capricorn. Continuing grand finale events are likely with Pluto in Capricorn until March 23, and perhaps when Pluto returns to Capricorn from June through the end of the year, but this spring Pluto gives notice of vacating and we get our first experience of Pluto in Aquarius, a sign it hasn’t occupied since 1798.

The shift from Saturn to Uranus will undoubtedly be disruptive and shocking, but also liberating and astonishing. Breakthroughs in medicine and science are certain. Political chaos is likely, especially where the will of the people is repressed. Last time Pluto was in Aquarius we had the American and French revolutions. We see all over the world protests and conflicts that could suddenly change the world for better or worse. Could the currently somewhat leashed wars erupt? Big explosions are what the planet Uranus is all about and Uranus rules Aquarius. While these battles are fought the real changes are happening in the area of advancements in AI, robotics, Neuralink, nanobots, etc. We may feel the world has been changing all too fast, but it will change even faster, and we’ll see signs of that throughout most of this spring. Those who cling to how it used to be might find niches in Aquarius’s passion for diversity, but accepting change will be important over the next couple of decades.

Mon Jan 30 and Tue 31 only lunar aspects are exact. Astrologer William Lilly wrote: “I believe God rules all by his divine providence and that the stars by his permission are instruments.” My own point of view is best described by Plotinus: “The stars are like letters that inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky. Everything in the world is full of signs. All events are coordinated. All things depend on each other. Everything breathes together.”

Wed Feb 1 sun sextile Chiron is exact. Even positive Chiron aspects can indicate problems in the area of health, ignored troubles could precipitate crisis, but for most of us this is a good opportunity for refining and sticking to routines that help us achieve well-being. Proper nutrition, sufficient rest, and healthy pursuits can invigorate us. As Richard Burton wrote, “a quiet mind cureth all.”

Thu Feb 2 only lunar aspects are exact. Here near the end of Saturn in Aquarius, Mars in Gemini and Pluto in Capricorn this quote by Paulo Coelho is worth pondering: “One always has to know when a stage comes to an end. If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through. Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters — whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished.”

Fri Feb 3 sun square Uranus is exact as Uranus leaves the degree of its station. Usually a disruptive aspect, indicating delays, detours, surprises, even shocks. Things may not go as planned but if you let them go where they may in a mindful way you might find a liberating new perspective. Paolo Coelho also wrote: “Closing cycles. Not because of pride, incapacity or arrogance, but simply because that no longer fits your life. Shut the door, change the record, clean the house, shake off the dust. Stop being who you were, and change into who you are.”

Sat Feb 4 Venus square Mars is exact. It can indicate friction good or bad between the genders, and tempestuous artistic creativity. The key is to use the energy wisely so as not to get stuck in irritation, which with this inflamed Mars can all too easily lead to conflict.

Sun Feb 5 only lunar aspects are exact and the moon is full in Leo at 10:29 AM. Don’t let the squares ruin an opportunity for a sunny disposition even in the face of challenges. Instead of inwardly organizing a long list of all the things likely to go wrong in the world let’s work on our own corners of it. Let’s do something positive rather than suffering couch-lock in the avalanche of evidence for pessimism. Consider one of my favorite quotes from Robert Heinlein: “Don’t ever become a pessimist — a pessimist is correct oftener than an optimist, but an optimist has more fun, and neither can stop the march of events.”

The following week has few aspects. Mercury conjunct Neptune and Venus sextile Uranus indicate opportunities for communication and creativity that deserve attention. The week ends with an intense Mercury conjunct Pluto. We’re not far from March 7 when Saturn enters Pisces. It’s been in Aquarius since 2020. Whenever Saturn is at the end of its journey through a sign it creates stagnant, repressed, exhausted conditions. It’s entry into Pisces should be felt as quite a relief. At the end of Saturn’s trip around the zodiac, Saturn in Pisces can be depressing, but also profound. Expect more problems with water. Take care of your feet. It seems likely that Saturn in Pisces will be the twilight of 20th century cultural domination as younger generations step up in an obvious way to begin redefining their future after Saturn enters Aries in 2025. But then every day each of us has the privilege and the task, the opportunity of redefining our lives. We can examine our lives. We can see how we impact others and recognize what we bring into the world. We can judge our own faults. We can weed the gardens where our thoughts dwell. We can find natural ways to benefit not only ourselves but others.
