Friends, Saturday’s Saturn stationary retrograde is with us all week and then some. For many this may indicate exhaustion, depression, criticism, and restrictions. But Saturn rewards hard work and long term devotion. Saturn brings opportunities to get some rest, to simplify, and to organize. Saturn helps learning, can indicate mentors, and it favors practice. Saturn stations are a good time to identify weak spots and address them by being a little more disciplined, patient and humble. Saturn can lead us to regret and sorrow over the past. If so it is because we have more to learn there. But Saturn also requires focus on the present. As Gadamer wrote: “What man needs is not just the persistent posing of ultimate questions, but the sense of what is feasible, what is possible, what is correct, here and now.”

Neptune is about to join the retrograde parade on June 30. This may well be a sleepy June and early July with Saturn still strong and Neptune strongly amplified. Not a good time for pushing forward aggressively. However, the combination of Saturn and Neptune gives the opportunity to capture the ineffable through meditation and creativity. If you’re working on a project that intends to make something tangible out of the mystical these retrograde stations are favorable.

Father’s Day on Sunday may have the new moon in its favor but the evening’s sun square Neptune with the Saturn station so nearly exact suggests Dad might get a little tired if he isn’t already exhausted. Too much booze might cause melancholy or downright depression so don’t pour too freely. A lunar sextile to Jupiter in the late afternoon along with sun trine Saturn at 6 PM can help us keep to a pleasant course.

Mon Jun 19 Jupiter sextile Neptune will be exact just before 9 AM. At the low end of the spectrum this aspect can indicate epic intoxication and false optimism. Keep in mind Fran Lebowitz’s wise words: “Contrary to popular opinion, the hustle is not a new dance step, it is an old business procedure.” With Mercury square Neptune exact soon be careful when commuting as drunk drivers seem to become more common when these aspects are in play. On the high end of the spectrum Jupiter sextile Neptune can indicate intuition and synchronicity sparking real opportunities for success but also for fun, and for mystical epiphanies. Make some time to enjoy life this week but remember to pay your respects to Saturn as the consequences of over-indulgence may feel a little harsher than usual.

Tue Jun 20 only lunar aspects are exact.

Wed Jun 21 sun inconjunct Pluto is exact in the witching hour. Inconjunctions can indicate health problems. The desire to simply go about your day may be disturbed by some Plutonian eventuality that requires attention. Usually these are situations we have been ignoring for some time. Examples include plumbing or appliances requiring attention, encounters with the shadows and traumas of self and others, local or world news that invokes stress. Repair and reform as necessary. Cultivate tranquility. Pluto can indicate healing. But if we involve our egos and feel put out because demands are made on us when all we want is a break, we may find that we’re not effective in dealing with frustrating challenges. Stay calm, that’s the key. Summer 2023 begins as the sun enters Cancer just before 8 AM turning our minds to home and loved ones. As Robert Creeley wrote: “I know this body is impatient. I know I constitute only a meager voice and mind. Yet I loved, I love. I want no sentimentality. I want no more than home.” This is the last summer of Pluto in Capricorn. We can look back to 2008 and ponder the arc of fifteen Pluto in Capricorn summers, especially in our own lives. In the morning Mercury sextile Mars is exact, giving extra energy to communications. Good for writing and other creative activities requiring dexterity. But Mars is almost square Uranus and that can indicate accidents involving dangerous utensils and instruments. In the early evening Mercury sextile Chiron is exact, another opportunity to learn and to think about wellness and healing.

Thu Jun 22 Mars trine Chiron is exact. Chiron may indicate healing, especially through crisis and response. Mars rules our drives, especially the big 3: anger, ambition, and libido. When those areas are neglected or leaned into excessively health problems can result. With Saturn so strong we have an opportunity to restore a more balanced approach. As Jean Gebser wrote: “Only if we grant power to something can it have power over us. It becomes a serving and sustaining potency when we again are able to place it into the realm where it belongs, instead of submitting to it.”

Fri Jun 23 and Sat Jun 24 only lunar aspects are exact.

Sun Jun 25 Mercury square Neptune is exact mid-afternoon. This can be a confusing aspect, a little like Mercury retrograde, indicating detours, mental fatigue, and misunderstood communications. Take care when communicating because the unconscious seems to peek through more easily iwth this aspect, and with Mars square Uranus and Mercury conjunct Pluto tomorrow arguments could easily flare. However, with focus and work this can be an aspect indicating inspiration and imagination. If you create with words, film, music, paint, and related materials, it will be worthwhile to ignore the frustrations of daily life for an hour or two of practicing your craft.

Mon Jun 26 Mars square Uranus is exact in the wee hours. This can be an accident prone (sudden moves) aspect, and erratic actions can become surprisingly destructive. If your need for freedom is frustrated and you feel there’s been nothing new in your life for too long take extra care as it’s easy to act out suddenly when this square is strong. On the other hand it’s a good time to put some effort into making yourself more effective. Mars loves being effectiv). Astrology, new tech, new perspectives can liberate the big 3 or at least one of them and give you the feeling of freedom you need. Try doing things in new ways. Explore the odd and unusual. Start fresh with matters of Mars. Mercury conjunct Pluto is exact just after 2 PM. There may be news that symbolizes the return to Pluto in Capricorn. This aspect can indicate obsessiveness, projection, paranoia, suspicion, jealousy, even criminality. Take it easy. Be careful in communication so you don’t say something not only regrettable but destructive. Follow through on reforms and repairs. A good aspect for shadow work. If you see glimpses of your shadow give some time to understanding rather than avoiding it altogether and inviting more difficulties. Mercury enters Cancer at 5:24 PM turning our thoughts back to home and family, chosen or biological, or both. Nurture the ones you love. Spend time thinking about how you might be able to bring more joy and security into their lives. For creative people Mercury in Cancer favors the imagination. Spend some time chatting under the moonlight.

This Monday June 19th at 7 PM EDT historic Camp Chesterfield presents my talk talk with Q&A about American Metaphysical Religion. $10, all proceeds go to Camp Chesterfield’s Spiritualist community.

Ronnie Pontiac reveals a forgotten history: pagan and alchemist pilgrims, Rosicrucian territorial governors, and The Platonist newspaper published in the 1880s in St. Louis around the time of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. America’s rich history of metaphysical exploration begins in the earliest days of trade and colonization, and continues without interruption, to today’s world of social media metaphysics.
