Happy Valentine’s Day to my readers. Love is a powerful force in all our lives, but each of us has our own individual definition of love. Love drags us to the darkest places and to the heights of joy and exaltation. Love is complicated in our society, where it has been used to sell products for generations. But love is a grow light, a beacon of hope, a transformative elixir.

Consider the example of a feral kitten. If no one ever loves that cat enough to rescue it life will be short and human experience minimal for a wild creature caught in a jungle of asphalt and concrete. But if that kitten finds a forever home with a person who loves her, who teaches her and takes her on trips, she might meet more people and travel to more places than most human beings. She could become a legend among the human beings who knew her: that cat who skateboarded, or used the toilet, who rode in a bicycle basket across Europe, or who had a YouTube channel with millions of subscribers. Where we give our love, and how deeply we give it, can change not only our own lives, but the lives of those we love. And that is our Valentine’s Day message.

Friends, we have before us four quiet weeks, astrologically speaking. That does not mean that everything will go smoothly, especially with Mercury retrograde until Saturday, and Saturn square Uranus exact this week, but we should be getting a breather all the way to the start of Spring. Most of us are frozen in defensive postures, in shock, triggered and traumatized. While we must remain as cautious as possible, as we begin to emerge from the pandemic crisis, whether that is sooner or later, many will find at first that their communication and social skills have atrophied.

Yesterday’s Mars sextile Neptune is strong all this week, making this a good time for creative work, but also for relaxation. For some there may be the temptation to unleash repressed libido or ambition in the pursuit of conspiracies, for or against. Charitable actions are favored. So is work that requires imagination. The urge to intoxication may be very strong, but moderation is favored with Saturn square Uranus.

Wed Feb 17 the first of this year’s three Saturn Uranus squares is exact. Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus. Squares are like steps. We must make an effort to lift one leg after the other all the way up the stairs or we fall into discomfort and conflict. Squares can be creative, and this will be a pivotal year in many lives, as new careers and new ways of doing things catapult some, while others unwilling to play the new game, and longing for how it used to be, may find themselves left out.

Saturn in Aquarius forces modernization, imposes equality and fairness, or resists these things, a resistance doomed by the power of Uranus to disrupt Saturn. Uranus in Taurus requires modernization of financial markets and food distribution. New forms of technology such as electric cars and crypto will continue to bring on the future but there will be efforts at suppression and regulation in defense of proven traditions. It’s a healthy conflict. In our own lives this is an important week to identify which areas of our lives need simplification, patience, learning, practice, and discipline, but also we can explore how new technology and new perspectives can bring more freedom into our lives.

Thu Feb 18 the sun enters Pisces at 2:44 AM bringing us into the twelfth and final stage of the astrological year. Sun in Pisces is a good time for imagination and reflection. A good time for looking back over the last year. The terror of the first lockdown when no one knew what we were dealing with. Economic collapse. The summer of protests. The winter surge. A sky rocketing stock market while the real economy is in ruins. Yet a golden opportunity to modernize. The fight to do so will be full of conflict, but seeing that Saturn is in the sign ruled by Aquarius, and that traditionally Saturn ruled Aquarius as well as Capricorn, we can expect that modernization will happen, because it has to.

Fri Feb 19 Venus square Mars is exact, the resulting friction between genders can make life more fun or cause unnecessary aggression. The key is to allow for both Venus and Mars. Both are to be respected. Listening and asking questions is a good start. This is a creative aspect. Romance and artistic endeavors of all sorts are good places to work on finding that balance.

Sat Feb 20 Mercury is direct at 4:52 PM Pacific time. Take it easy. Things should become a little less complicated. If progress has been held up it may now begin to move forward but don’t try to push ahead. Go with the flow.

The following week is even quieter than this one. With potentially auspicious Mars trine Pluto Feb 24 and sun sextile Uranus Feb 25. Don’t take unnecessary risks, but do relax. Take a break. Enjoy a sense of relief about something. Ponder this quote from Plotinus, “The stars are like letters that inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky. Everything in the world is full of signs. All events are coordinated. All things depend on each other. Everything breathes together.”
