All times Pacific.
Friends we have a potentially somewhat challenging week ahead of us. It starts with Saturn squares, features Mars square Pluto, and ends with a Venus square Neptune. Again, squares are like stairs. If we are willing to put in the effort to climb we can get to a whole new level. But if we try to just keep going forward as usual we may fall. Squares are not necessarily bad, they can be very creative, and provide energy for making changes and getting things done.
Saturday 6/8’s Venus square Saturn is still strong. Get extra rest. Simplify. Give loved ones their space. Show your loyalty in quiet ways. Tackle big chores together. In ancient Mesopotamia the gods were said to have created the earth and been delighted until they realized it required drudgery: continuous daily upkeep. So they invented human beings, creatures with no souls and no afterlife, to take care of these chores. But the pesky critters kept growing souls and civilizations. Chores can be meditative and sacred because they are how we avoid harm to ourselves and others. With this square even chores could become romantic. For creative people a good time to edit but if you feel discouraged get some rest. As Gertrude Stein wrote in Reflection on the Atomic Bomb (1946) “Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense.”
Sunday 6/9 Sun square Saturn is exact during the witching hour adding to the likelihood of potential pessimism, depression, and exhaustion. On the other hand a good time for simplifying and organizing, for taking hard look at facts, for meditation, and for dark humor. Also good for learning and practice. But extra sleep or a lazy Sunday afternoon of comedy may be the best idea. As Blaise Pascal wrote: “I have discovered that all human evil comes from this, man’s being unable to sit still in a room.”
Mon 6/10 only a lunar aspect is exact. Alan Watts wrote: “How is it possible that a being with such sensitive jewels as the eyes, such enchanted musical instruments as the ears, and such a fabulous arabesque of nerves as the brain can experience itself as anything less than a god.”
Tue 6/11 Venus sextile Chiron is exact after midnight followed by Mars square Pluto in the early morning. The sextile gives us an opportunity to find healing in creativity, romance, beauty, music, art, nature and dance. One of the few positive aspects this week, try to make time for it. Hug someone you love. The square is this week’s dominant aspect. It can indicate an explosive atmosphere where anger can quickly turn into violence. Drive defensively. Avoid aggressive people and risky situations. Repairs and replacements that demand immediate attention will probably be no surprise as Pluto gives us plenty of warnings about where we must change. An escalation in warfare is possible but so is a pause caused by united pressure. In our own lives this aspect indicates a good time for hard work, and for addressing changes in the areas of ambition, libido and boundaries. This is the sort of weather when bottled up anger can break out in regrettable statements or actions. Where appropriate communicate calmly and clearly.
Wed 6/12 Mercury square Saturn is exact during the witching hour, followed by sun sextile Chiron about a half an hour before midnight. The square can indicate depressing thoughts or news, but can also indicate the beginning of the end of an ordeal involving daily life or other Mercurial correspondences. A very good aspect for editing, completing, doing repetitive work, for meditation, learning, and practice, especially of complicated ideas and skills requiring dexterity. The sextile continues the theme of health issues, crisis, or adjustments to daily life that improve well being. Paying attention to our emotions, to small signals there and in the messages our body sends with sensations and reactions, we can fine tune.
Thu 6/13 Mercury sextile Chiron is exact in the early evening again emphasizing health, and perhaps news about health in the public arena, not necessarily bad news. It’s interesting that the government has asked the pharmaceuticals to deploy vaccine tuned to the latest variant. But so far so good. We’ve gotten past more difficult Chiron aspects than this without major news before. In our individual lives we can have conversations about health, do research online to find ways to address areas of weakness or trouble while they are still subtle. Eliphas Levi wrote eloquently about how this sensitivity to small signs can help us prevent harm.
Fri 6/14 sun conjunct Mercury is exact mid morning. This hot Mercury can indicate putting too much ego into communications. Gossip and other distractions are a waste of what could be an epic fact finding mission or a conversation that helps you clarify your approach. Be open to other points of view. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin wrote: “It is our duty as men and women to proceed as though the limits of our abilities do not exist.”
Sat 6/15 no aspects are exact. As Sir Francis Bacon wrote: “Beauty itself is but the sensible image of the Infinite.”
Sun 6/16 Venus square Neptune is exact in the late afternoon. This square can be languid and romantic, dreamy even, but can also indicate confusion, over-intoxication, and mystical or romantic misunderstandings. Compassion and empathy can help. Artistic and romantic inspiration are available but may require some effort. Venus enters Cancer at 11:29 PM a home and family oriented placement. Romantic gestures are more important with Venus in Cancer. Don’t be afraid to be a little sentimental. Beautify your environment where possible. Feed yourself emotionally with beautiful art.
