All times Pacific.

Friends, we have before us a week packed with sometimes contradictory astrological events. It might be helpful to recall the saying from the Rig Veda: “One bird eats, the other watches.” The bird that eats is the “part” of our soul that runs the incredibly complex machinery of billions of parts that sustains our bodies through time. The bird that watches is the part of the soul that remains free from physical concerns. We usually forget about the soul altogether. But if we are identified with hate, fear and anger we can be sure we are in the lower world of the bird that eats, a world where destruction is necessary for survival. But if we can remember and see with the eyes of the bird who watches even the most difficult times are full of the beauty of their impermanence and sacred resonance. It’s not easy to achieve that clarity but times like these are the right time for working on it.

Sunday 7/21 is a busy day astrologically speaking, the full blue Buck Moon in the final degree of Capricorn is exact at 3:17 AM giving us another indicator of endings, especially with Saturn retrograde still dwelling in the degree of its station, but only for today. Venus sextile Jupiter is exact in the early afternoon indicating the possibility of joy, play, success, romance, creativity. Enjoy music, art, and good food with someone you love. However, Mercury square Uranus is exact in the afternoon which can be nervous and even erratic. Over excited chatter could lead to trouble. Electronic gear might glitch or break down. Drive carefully on the morning commute. With this aspect people are not only more likely to say regrettable things but also a bit more accident prone. Try listening to something different. For example, replacing political content with classical music, or whatever kind of music speaks to your soul.

Also Sunday Sun trine Neptune is exact in the evening, a dreamy aspect that may draw many to intoxication or at least escapism. With sun opposition Pluto just ahead moderation is key. It’s important we keep our wits about us. Be mindful, as they say. Inspiration is available for creativity, and for kindness. Mars trine Pluto is exact about twenty minutes later. This indicates invigoration, great effort and/or catharsis, energy for reforms and repairs. Find the balance between boundaries, libido and ambition that works for you. Even this harmonious trine between Mars and Pluto can lead to conflict and violence, especially with sun opposition Pluto exact tomorrow night. Avoid suspicion, paranoia, it’s all too easy in this collective atmosphere to project threats where there are none. Shadows are on full display. We can ponder how to respond creatively and effectively.

Monday 7/22 the sun enters Leo at 12:44 PM then exactly opposes Pluto in the late evening. Sun in Leo emphasizes that summer feeling, but also the heat. Sun in Cancer can center around friends, family, home, water. Sun in Leo wants admiration, enjoyment, a say in leadership, a place in the sun. Honesty, confidence and charisma can help us get better results. Sun opposition Pluto could throw a wrench into good times. Avoid power struggles. Breakdowns seem to happen, especially in areas of neglect. Encounters with the shadow are not uncommon. The good news is that Saturn moves out of the degree of its station today, hopefully bringing a bit of relief from the double station of Saturn and Neptune that has been bringing things down lately. More info about that here.

Tue 7/23 only lunar aspects are exact. Goethe wrote: “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”

Wed 7/24 only lunar aspects are exact. The ever witty and poignant Pessoa wrote: “Look, there’s no metaphysics on earth like chocolates.”

Thu 7/25 Mercury inconjunct Neptune stationary retrograde is exact in the morning. We may get more news about bird flu or another germ concern. Propaganda may run afoul of itself creating a notable gaffe. This inconjunction can also indicate a week or so when it seems harder to focus. There may be distractions involving rescuing or other compassionate, or possibly in hindsight, deluded actions. Mercury enters Virgo at 3:42 PM, a good placement for detailed work, planning, learning, and accuracy. Write down a way to streamline your life. Find an actual schedule that works for you. Try not to be cynical with self or others. Perfectionist Mercury in Virgo can say true but cruel things especially when provoked. Communicate carefully. Sun sextile Mars will be exact in the evening, extra energy but how to use it? Simmering over the feed is not a good choice. Suspense! The whole human world gets caught up in it sometimes but nature is always there offering to restore our souls and our appreciation of life.

Fri 7/26 Chiron is stationary retrograde in the morning. Venus inconjunct Saturn is exact in the late afternoon. Mercury inconjunct Pluto is exact as the evening begins. News about health is likely. That Saturn and Pluto are involved may hearken back to the Saturn Pluto conjunction when Covid took over the headlines. It may be no more than further confirmation of the ongoing surge in certain areas. It could be health news related to politics. We may notice especially subversive propaganda, perhaps to the detriment of the propagandist. In our own lives this is a good time to quietly assess how our bodies are doing. How do we feel? Are we providing adequate nutrition and rest? Many of us treat our cats or dogs better than our own bodies. This is a good time to receive messages about where adjustments can be made. What sort of dedicated habit could you start that will help you combine meditation and exercise? Yoga is not the only choice. Not much of a party weekend although as always there will be exceptions. We must each mind our own levels of comfort and discomfort.

Sat 7/27 the dark of the moon begins at 7:52 PM, traditionally a time for finishing rather than starting. A good time to reflect on the first seven months of 2024. Get some rest. Recharge. Mercury retrograde begins August 4. With Uranus stationary retrograde 9/1 we’ll have plenty of surprises ahead no matter what happens next. Ralph Waldo Emerson sounding more like Mark Twain wrote: “Society is always taken by surprise at any new example of common sense.”
