All times Pacific.

Friends, we have an interesting week before us that begins with an active Venus but ends with Mars taking over. Mars will also be the dominant theme of the following week. That’s good if you’ve been feeling exhausted during the Saturn and Neptune stations that have been lingering like dense clouds since at last the last week of June. Feelings of futility, resignation, and depression are to be expected when Saturn and Neptune get together. They will again, ultimately conjunct zero degrees Aries in 2025, which should be quite a change of zeitgeist. Whatever happens between then and now, and for a bit after, a significant number of people will be feeling bad about how things are going. But big changes are ahead, folks. We can be sure the future holds big surprises with the U.S. Uranus return beginning next year as the U.S. Pluto return fades.

Sunday 7/7 only lunar aspects are exact. Lunar aspects with Venus and Jupiter make this a good afternoon for socializing and for enjoying romance, creativity and the arts.

Mon 7/8 Venus sextile Uranus exact before dawn can indicate sudden attractions to the new or strange, unexpected artistic inspiration, inventive pleasures, and liberating art. In our own lives we can look at issues around love, the comfort and harmony of our rooms, the need for freedom, and a good time to encourage Venus people in our lives. Look for new ways of doing things. Is there an app for that? Probably.

Tue 7/9 only lunar aspects are exact. Audre Lorde wrote: “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”

Wed 7/10 sun trine Saturn is exact in the evening needn’t ruin the Venus party, although Venus opposition Pluto getting stronger daily might indicate Venus people realizing that they have had enough. With Saturn’s pacing, sense of timing, and ability to organize, we can optimize the creative and romantic, even getting the best out of that potentially treacherous opposition.

Thu 7/11 Venus trine Neptune is exact in the early morning possibly indicating beautiful dreams, creative inspiration, the kindness of women, compassion, and mystical experiences of love. Venus enters Leo at 8:19 AM giving us more of that Leo summer feeling. In relationships we want to shine and be appreciated. Make sure to express your admiration to significant others.

Fri 7/12 Venus opposition Pluto is exact in the early morning. On the negative end of the spectrum it can indicate crisis in a relationship, a creative failure, suppression of love or creativity by some circumstance of life beyond our control, but also paranoia, obsession, manipulation, and even desperation. Cathartic love is possible, and so is cathartic art, but that means letting those deep shadowy emotions out in a creative way.

Sat 7/13 only lunar aspects are exact. This quote from Krishnamurti captures the way emotional and mental urgency can inhibit clarity: “Freedom from the desire for an answer is essential to the understanding of the problem.”

Sun 7/14 only lunar aspects are exact. Moon square Pluto in the late morning may echo this week’s Venus opposition Pluto issues. Krishnamurti also wrote: “What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it.”

Mon 7/15 Mars conjunct Uranus conjunct Algol will be exact in the early morning. This aspect has led to rash predictions of world war, terrorism, and civil unrest, and certainly those are possibilities when these two planets and the star the Arabian astrologers called The Devil’s Head occupy the same degree. Yet every thing in astrology has a spectrum of potential processes and outcomes. When we ignore the lessons we must learn we tend to harvest harsh results. When we are moving with the harmony of the moment great things may be possible. Having been associated with Medusa’s Head in ancient Greece Algol can indicate decapitation, violence, mobs, but it can also indicate female anger.

If the president, for example, decides not to run, or to step down, it will likely be a woman who takes his place. This would satisfy the decapitation theme, a leader steps down, and also the theme of righteous female anger in the aftermath of the repeal of Roe v Wade. In the wake of elections in Mexico then the UK it may be hard for the democratic leadership to resist giving the platform to what some would call the progressive side of the party. In our own lives it’s important to be in touch with anger, the need for freedom, and to respect and defend the rights and well being of the women around us. Ladies, whatever happens next, perhaps put that justifiable anger to work by finding ways to contribute effectively to taking out the trash, politically speaking.

Mars conjunct Uranus and Algol commences next week’s series of Mars aspects with the outer planets in order of distance. With Mars sextile Neptune and trine Pluto next week progress toward resolutions of conflict may be attainable. In our own lives we can make adjustments that help us to liberate ambition, libido and where necessary the anger needed to protect our boundaries. As Sartre wrote: “Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.”

Of course, we still have Saturn and Neptune retrograde dwelling in the degree of their stations. Saturn until July 22 (not so far away) but those last few days of the station can cause acute frustration. Meditation is favored with these stations and can help us get through them more easily. Neptune dwells in the degree of station, the final degree of the zodiac, until 9/3 giving us a very Neptunian summer. Again, be extra careful in the water, not a time for getting over intoxicated or taking risks involving dangerous ocean or river environments. Go for the more placid experience.

Neptune in the last degree of the zodiac 29 Pisces indicates pessimism, depression, the feeling that it’s the end of an era and something terrible may be just around the corner. Yes, a new generation slouching its way to Bethlehem. Here’s hoping they’re more civilized than the generations preceding them. They are fourth quadrant (Pluto in Sagittarius or Capricorn) and in astrological lore are said to be souls of higher development. We sure could use some of those right about now.

How will the election go? I remain skeptical about predictions as there are so many contrary factors at work. We can speculate that Pluto’s brief return to Capricorn just in time for the election may indicate a conservative victory. But that would only make the reaction more dramatic. Pluto in Aquarius is progressive but also revolutionary when the people are denied liberties by minority factions that seize power. Twenty years of Pluto in Aquarius guarantees that even a Christian Nationalist victory this November would not long survive, especially after Saturn and Neptune enter Aries and Uranus enters Gemini, beginning the U.S. Uranus return, another astrological event having to do with doing whatever it takes to gain liberty, just in time for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our republic.

All of this dovetails with the upcoming finale of the U.S. Pluto return square Eris. The vengeance of those unjustly oppressed as it relates to American history and current politics is a major theme. This does not have to take the form of civil war or civil unrest. It happens because of the inevitability of time, and the power of Uranus to dissolve the seemingly invincible grasp of Saturn. In any event with Pluto in Aquarius and America’s Uranus return in the latter half of the 2020s it won’t be old fashioned religion, racism and restored social taboos that stir the hearts of the majority of Americans. They will be marching to the beat of a different drummer: freedom, liberty, diversity, progress, the future.
