Friends, we have before us a potentially challenging week that culminates in what promises to be a momentous occasion as Jupiter’s exact square to Saturn marks the progress of what began in December 2020, which will be explained in the entry about Monday 8/19.

Sunday 8/11 only lunar aspects are exact. Carl Jung wrote: “We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.”

Mon 8/12 and Tue 8/13 only lunar aspects are exact. Viktor Frankl wrote: “Even more people today have the means to live but no meaning to live for.”

Wed 8/14 Mercury inconjunct Pluto is exact around dawn, followed by Mars conjunct Jupiter in the morning. The inconjunction can indicate news in the health sector, perhaps some alarming factoid for the feed. We have been seeing an increase in concern over bird flu spreading to humans. In our own lives it’s a time for paying attention to areas requiring repair and reform. Communication may be difficult but neglect is dangerous. By respecting what Pluto reveals we can find the kind of help we need and avoid bigger problems down the line. Mars conjunct Jupiter can be violent. Men in particular might be more aggressive than usual, but with Jupiter just about to square Saturn the consequences may be severe. Mercury retrograde re-enters Leo in the late afternoon bringing sunnier mental weather and a bit of relief from Virgo’s attention to details.

Thu 8/15 sun trine Chiron is exact mid morning, suggesting an opportunity for healing. Avoid the resignation of tolerating problems, seek to improve and heal them. Ask for help. Mercury inconjunct Neptune is exact mid morning. It can indicate news about putlic health, Neptune can be about contagion but it could also be a different kind of health, the kind that is attacked not by virus but by propaganda and manipulation. Mars square Saturn is exact in the late evening. Here Mars acts as Jupiter’s herald reaching exact square to Saturn a few days before Jupiter does. This can be a frustrating aspect. Temper can blaze from small sparks of long term frustration. But it’s excellent for detailed hard work. Discretion is the better part of valor this week. Put this energy to work instead of getting sharp with others. There’s a tendency to want to rebel against authority.

Fri 8/16 and Sat 8/17 only lunar aspects are exact. George Orwell wrote: “The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. Lies will pass into history.”

Sun 8/18 Mercury square Uranus is exact just before the witching hour followed by the sun exactly conjunct Mercury mid-evening and then Venus square Jupiter in the late evening. Mercury square Uranus can be a nervous, erratic and accident prone aspect with an unnecessary sense of urgency. But it can also indicate moments of brilliance, liberating updates of tech, a better understanding of the opportunities the future holds. Sun conjunct Mercury (with the sun about to square Uranus, too) can be exciting for communication but sometimes ego takes over to the detriment of opportunity. Venus square Jupiter can be the most pleasant of squares but there is the danger of over doing, over spending, over-optimism, and the sort of casual arrogance sun conjunct Mercury can indicate. With Venus opposing Saturn the very next day the consequences of false certainty may be harsher than usual.

Mon 8/18 Venus opposition Saturn is exact ninety minutes after midnight, then sun square Uranus is exact mid-morning, another nervous and unnecessarily urgent aspect. The opposition can be disappointing, especially for those associated with Venus, but it can also indicate earned advancement. Together Venus and Saturn indicate an opportunity to refine and simplify. Hard work can help us live in greater harmony. For relationships to flourish show loyalty and respect boundaries and time.

Also Monday Jupiter square Saturn is exact mid afternoon. You may recall the Great Conjunction of December 2020, the beginning of a new twenty year cycle, in an air sign, and in Aquarius, for the first time in centuries. This square marks an important moment collectively and individually in the struggle between new and old, optimism and pessimism, open happiness and the secretive theocratic cynicism of Opus Dei.

Saturn may dampen high spirits but Jupiter can dispel Saturn’s gloom with the jovial disposition of a fresh start. This square may indicate a dramatic event, a moment when the conflict becomes even more crystal clear than it has already become. All this occurs with Uranus square the U.S.natal moon. Women are doing the work of freedom, women and the young. But there are plenty of surprises ahead and most astrologers are predicting the election will not be immediately decided. One thing we can be sure of is setbacks are inevitable with Pluto about to glide back into 29 degrees Capricorn, a degree of dramatic endings, to be followed at the end of 2024 with almost two decades of Pluto in Aquarius, a time when people fight for freedom, and people join together against tyranny. What ever happens in the near future the trend long term is toward greater freedom for all human beings. Working out how to do that will be central to our experience of Pluto in Aquarius.
