All times Pacific.

Monday 4/14 only lunar aspects are exact. In 1953 Raymond Chandler wrote: “There ain’t no clean way to make a hundred million bucks,” Ohls said. “Maybe the head man thinks his hands are clean but somewhere along the line, guys got pushed to the wall, nice little businesses got the ground cut out from under them and had to sell out for nickels. Decent people lost their jobs, stocks got rigged on the market, proxies got bought up like pennyweight of old gold and the five percenters and the big law firms got paid hundred grand fees for beating some law the people wanted but the rich guys didn’t on account it cut into their profits.”

Tue 4/15 Mercury enters Aries at 11:25 PM. While spring began almost a month ago in a sense this is the beginning that spring usually signifies. With Mercury in Pisces many have been looking toward the past, eyeing the future with trepidation, and analyzing all the ways that the world we knew has slipped away, but Mercury is Aries will turn attention to fresh starts, starting over, taking action rather than ruminating. Think of Mercury in Pisces as endlessly waiting to dive into cold water, stepping in incrementally, prolonging the discomfort. Aries jumps right in. Prepare to refresh yourself and your surroundings. Watch out for unnecessary conflict as Aries is not patient and road rage incidents usually increase when Mercury is in Aries. Don’t blurt angry words you may regret. Encourage instead of arguing.

Wed 4/16 Mercury conjunct Neptune is exact at 9:11 PM. On the negative this can indicate a time of confusion, exhaustion, manipulation, and misunderstandings. The feeling of the doldrums, of being adrift, or of drowning in imaginary apprehensions. But it can also indicate soulful communication, inspiring dreams, mystical research, psychic connection, and well organized compassion and charity. Beware of lies and liars. Don’t give in to the temptation to tell tall tales, or to otherwise manipulate facts to make them more glamorous. For writers and other creative people this is the time to tune into inspiration and take notes.

Thur 4/17 Mars enters Leo at 9:21 PM. Mars has been in Cancer since 1/6 and it has been in an unusually long and grueling opposition with Pluto. Mars is in its fall in Cancer, which is to say it’s not happy there. For most people energy is low. Conflicts arise around issues of home, family, patriotism. The imagination may take a hostile turn, and there may be frustrations in the areas of desire, ambition, and anger. People tend to be more sentimental and less daring with this placement. Mars is much more comfortable in Leo. For most this will mean more energy, an eagerness to prove ourselves in some way, and energized desires and ambitions. However, since Mars is now nearing its exact opposition with Pluto, which happened last on 1/2/2025, each day brings a little more irritation, a little more force applied to the need for reform. If you’ve been repressing the feeling of being unfairly treated you may not be able to hold back much longer. Find a constructive way to express your needs and rights. Look for ways to use your energy to help others. Look back to the first week of this year to see what issues may require further attention.

Fri 4/18 only lunar aspects are exact. Patanjali said: “When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”

Sat 4/19 sun enters Taurus at 12:56 PM and Mars trine Neptune is exact mid morning. Sun in Taurus brings us to the sensuality of spring as summer approaches. We’re more focused on the beauty of nature, on good food, the comforts and luxuries that make us feel secure, and most of all our loved ones, after all, Taurus is ruled by Venus. Don’t be too stubborn. Mars trine Neptune helps us deal with Mars opposition Pluto. We can find inspiration. We can effectively assist others in need. We can use our imaginations to deal with frustration by seeing new ways to approach obstacles. We may find a new vision in a more inclusive ambition for ourselves and others. We bring a more soulful perspective to our desires. We may be inspired to defend ourselves and others spiritually as well as physically.

Mars opposition Pluto will be exact 4/26 so next week may be quite dramatic individually and collectively. Keep in mind that almost everyone has been traumatized since the pandemic and that there has been no real break from stressful news, in fact, the news is getting more stressful daily. Exhausted people make mistakes, feel resistance to going that extra mile, get irritated quickly, and slip into catastrophizing more easily. This is why it’s very important to take time to commune with nature, to enjoy or create art, spend more time with pets, or whatever works to ground you and to restore a sense of appreciation for life. Know when to turn off the feed. Know when to unplug. Yes, Pluto can represent death, breakdowns, catastrophe, war, vicious criminality, and reckless revolution, we will probably see some especially good examples of Pluto at its worst with the US Pluto return in full bloom, but Pluto also represents catharsis, healing, tranquility, liberation and the common good. Pluto is the inevitability of the fall of tyrants by the inexorable impermanence of matter. Gertrude Stein wrote: “You’ll be old and you never lived, and you kind of feel silly to lie down and die and to never have lived, to have been a job chaser and never have lived.”

Mars opposition Pluto teaches by experience and example. We have some splendid examples of hubris running amok currently, all destined to learn that facts ultimately outweigh lies, that no matter how well funded our obsessions our unjust behavior reaps what it sows. Times like this the more soulful we become, the more we work on finding spiritual stability, the readier we are to deal with the challenges and opportunities of the present moment. If you’re carrying around grudges from ten years ago remember that some people change. Here’s a very Mars opposition Pluto quote by C.D. Wright: “I say onto you, comrades, be not in mourning for your being. To express happiness and expel scorpions is the best job on earth.”

Sun 4/20 Venus sextile Uranus is exact late morning. Mercury sextile Pluto is exact mid-afternoon. Sextiles are not as strong as squares so these two helpful aspects might be lost in the irritation and conflict of Sun square Mars with Mars conjunct Pluto. This square, exact early evening, indicates extra energy and the sextiles can help us put it to good use. Venus sextile Uranus indicates enlightening even liberating experiences around creativity and romance. Do something different. Go somewhere new. Indulge an interest in the strange or unfamiliar. A pleasant surprise may remind you that there are still beautiful things happening in life. Mercury sextile Pluto is great for research, for digging deep into repressed desire. A conversation or a serendipitous book or video could bring healing in areas that have been troubling. The dark of the moon begins at 6:36 PM, indicating seven days when finishing generally goes better than beginning, when introversion can be helpful, and extra and rest meditation can help us recharge. Walt Whitman wrote: “Happiness, not in another place but this place…not for another hour, but this hour.”
