All times Pacific.
Monday 5/19 only lunar aspects are exact. Andre Breton wrote: “Perhaps I am doomed to retrace my steps under the illusion that I am exploring, doomed to try and learn what I should simply recognize, learning a mere fraction of what I have forgotten.” This quote expresses an experience that is common when Saturn is in the final degree of Pisces, which it is this week until it enters Aries on Saturday.
Tue 5/20 sun sextile Saturn is exact after 2 AM. This is usually a helpful aspect, indicating the early part of the week lends itself to organization and structure, but with Saturn in the last degree of the zodiac there could be a bit of an apocalyptic edge. Some may experience a retrospective reassessment and are likely to find themselves wanting. Replace judgement of self or others with appreciation. Appreciate what you’ve accomplished. Learn from mistakes and sins of omission. Notice ways to adjust course for a better future. The dark of the moon begins one minute before 5 AM, a good time to get extra rest, explore introspection, and finish rather than begin. The sun enters Gemini five minutes before midnight. Short trips, gossipy conversations, information gathering, and seeing both sides of issues are Gemini pastimes. Summer is about five weeks away.
Wed 5/21 only lunar aspects are exact. Albert Camus wrote: “In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”
Thu 5/22 Venus trine Mars is exact before 1 AM. Sun sextile Neptune is exact around dawn. The trine can bring harmony to romance and the arts. Take time this weekend to enjoy the company of the one you love. Bring grace to your actions. Express affection. More energy is available for creativity. If you’ve been feeling angry now is a good time to turn to music, art or film for beauty and inspiration. Nurture your soul and give your adrenals a break. The sextile provides a dreamy atmosphere ideal for romance. A dream may influence your day. Tune into how others are feeling, to what they’re expressing in subtle ways.
Fri 5/23 only lunar aspects are exact. “You don’t love because, you love despite; not for the virtues, but despite the faults,” William Faulkner wrote.
Sat 5/24 sun trine Pluto is exact just before 9 AM. Mercury conjunct Uranus is exact at a quarter after 4 PM. Saturn enters Aries at 5:35 PM. Here’s the day we’ve been waiting for. The trine sets the stage for transformation, healing, reform and repair. Do something that makes you feel like you’re saying goodbye to all that’s happened since around the summer of 1996 when this Saturn cycle began.
1996 was the year of the Atlanta Olympics where a pipe bomb attack killed and wounded innocent people. The hottest song that summer was “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” by Los Del Río. “Independence Day” was that summer’s blockbuster. The Spice Girls released their first single and The Ramones played their last gig. The conjunction can indicate synchronicity, liberating conversations and ideas, new tech that saves time, unexpected connections. One warning: don’t blurt out a regrettable comment in an anxious moment.
About Saturn entering Aries. Now three of the four outer planets are in new signs with Saturn and Neptune entering new cycles. 7/7 Uranus will leave Taurus for Gemini. We will have switched from the four outer planets in earth and water signs (mud) to air and fire signs. In July we get our first chance to experience the new atmosphere, the new playing field. Until then we can acclimate ourselves to Saturn’s new placement. Saturn in Pisces since March of 2023 brought a sense of culmination, of time running out, of the old order fading away, a malaise of apprehension about the future and melancholy about the past, but also a good time for gaining greater understanding, for acts of compassion, for encountering and developing our psychical and mystical qualities. Saturn in Aries is a fresh start, a new almost thirty year cycle just beginning (Saturn will return to Pisces from 9/1 until 2/13/26.
Sun 5/25 Mercury enters Gemini one minute before 6 PM. Mercury sextiles Saturn at about a quarter to 7 PM, enhancing communication, and helping us get serious about things we’ve thought through, helping us take a step toward realizing our plans. Mercury in Taurus tends to be stubborn, while Mercury in Gemini benefits from seeing both sides of issues. A good time for writing and editing. As we navigate this rapidly changing zeitgeist it’s good to learn patience, and equanimity when facing the suspense of not knowing exactly what is going to happen next. Gertrude Stein’s zen like saying is a good motto for the next few months: “There ain’t no answer. There ain’t gonna be any answer. There never has been an answer. That’s the answer.” Make time for joy along the way.
