All times Pacific.

We have before us the first of two weeks of nice aspects and not too many of them, unusually good for writing and all communication. Langston Hughes wrote: “Writing is like traveling. It’s wonderful to go somewhere, but you get tired of staying.” This week Mercury is center-stage so expect lots of talking, information gathering, and navigating through the currents of chaos. Now that Saturn has entered Aries and is nearing Neptune we’ll be seeing more signs of what comes next. Saturn conjunct Neptune suggests we won’t be celebrating that fresh start with the enthusiasm it deserves.

In our own lives we can look around for hints about what our new curriculum might include. Meditation is very favorable if not essential with this year’s menu of planetary happenings. There’s a contradiction built into this aspect, though. The disillusionment of Saturn conjunct Neptune versus Ares as the rebirth at the start of new cycles around the zodiac. Make room for both. Comfort with contradiction, paradox, and suspense is a skill much needed. Think of these adverse situations as weather. Take necessary precautions. Enjoy the contrast. Practice the Buddhist “one taste” meditation, where even opposites are the same, in the same sense that all sensations, good or bad, are simply sensation.

Mon 5/26, Memorial Day, Mercury sextile Neptune is exact in the early afternoon. Inspired conversations and shared compassion appropriate to the holiday are there for us to enjoy. Can we learn to make a point of finding moments of joy amid so many reasons for solemnity and worry? Look for inspiration in mystical and psychic exploration. Take a short trip to a nearby beach or other body of water and enjoy a break from apprehension. The attraction of intoxication may be strong but take it easy with that Saturn Neptune conjunction, as excess could ruin a good time and cause unnecessary problems. Moderation is key with this aspect. The new moon in Gemini is exact at 8:02 PM, furthering the urge for conversation, interaction, short trips, interesting reading, or insightful films.

Tue 5/27 Mercury trine Pluto is exact in the late morning favoring research of all kinds, deep conversations, realizations that can kick over a new way of seeing things. Are you battling the recurrent influence of your shadow? America is. Is there a way to integrate the interference? The details of it can be messages for you to decipher, allegories, symbols, that might liberate a neglected part of you. Can you turn a fault into a virtue? If you’re in need of healing, this week is a good time to talk about it with someone who could help you. Read something deep. Think about tranquility until there is no thinking only tranquility.

Wed 5/28 only lunar aspects are exact. With everyone so archly critical of others and self, thanks to social media, we can rely on Abraham Lincoln’s wisdom: “He has a right to criticize, who has a heart to help.”

Thu 5/29 sun conjunct Mercury is exact in the evening, also favoring conversations, information gathering, organizing by writing down what we want to accomplish. Avoid putting too much ego into communications and reactions. Instead of jumping to conclusions, ask questions. Don’t waste these aspects on gossip or rabbit holes of paranoia about the future, unless that’s your idea of a good time.

Fri 5/30 and Sat 5/31 only lunar aspects are exact. Kahlil Gibran wrote: “If your heart is a volcano, how shall you expect flowers to bloom?” With Saturn and Neptune now more closely sextile Pluto, and Uranus trine Pluto, and Saturn, we’re beginning to see the grand mandala of sextiles and trines of the outer planets that give next year a special promise of something beautiful happening, a renaissance of some sort, perhaps, or maybe AI actually somehow against all rationality helps bring about a wonderful improvement of life on earth. We’ve not seen this kind of alignment in our lifetimes.

However Saturn conjunct Neptune may indicate a counter current of refusal and denial. Uranus in the final degree of Taurus the second half of June brings another time of endings, culmination, and potentially a crisis, possibly involving network issues such as cyber attacks, problems with electricity, disruption of supply chain especially for food and humble luxuries, but also amazing new tech, unexpected breakthroughs in the sciences, and a big sense of relief for people with strong Taurus planetary or angle placements. Uranus has hopefully liberated you in some way since first disturbing your stability in May 2018.

The last time Uranus was in Taurus the Great Depression happened. Uranus will be in Taurus until 7/7 and then again from 11/9 until 4/26. With this mandala of harmonious aspects perhaps we’ll be able to avoid the worst potential of this placement, though the news would have us thinking otherwise.

Sun 6/1 Venus conjunct Chiron is exact at 1:11 PM, making this week and the following week a time when deep healing can be accomplished through love, art, and beauty. If you’re choosing a physician around this time choose a woman. Relationships, creative callings, appreciation for the simple splendors of life may realign. Stay concerned and compassionate about those who are suffering injustice. Also preserve your own well being. It does no one any good when we worry to the point of exhaustion. Take action when you can. Help where you can. Be informed, but give time to your heart and soul. If you have children in your life, make sure they have chances to experience the joy of living. Born with Pluto in Capricorn they have a well developed sense of what is wrong in the world, show them a little of what is right. Walt Whitman wrote: “Give me odorous at sunrise a garden of beautiful flowers where I can walk undisturbed.”
