All times Pacific.
Friends, we have before us a week of challenging aspects, including a series of inconjunctions. Inconjunctions represent two areas of life that just don’t seem to work together. The temptation is to focus on one and ignore the other, which of course leads to problems when the ignored aspect demands attention. With inconjunctions health problems might be the result of stress or neglect. Good nourishment, downtime, and rest are especially important. If there is to be a fall surge or two October may make it obvious.
Keep in mind that even on the days marked by the worst aspects someone is finding great joy, is getting rewarded for a great achievement, is experiencing the luckiest moment of their lives. Within the intricacies of transits and birth aspects, and within the spectrum of negative and positive potentials included in all aspects, a vast playground of experiences occurs. Don’t let anticipation of bad aspects dampen enthusiasm. We can’t pretend everything’s fine but we can have faith in the ability to adjust individually and collectively. As James Baldwin wrote: “I’ve always believed that you can think positive just as well as you can think negative.”
Sun 10/1 only lunar aspects are exact but Saturday’s exact Mercury trine Uranus and Mars inconjunct Uranus continue to be strong, especially the inconjunction which will be with us all week. The trine can help us recognize and think through necessary changes. We can update, benefit from new perspectives, and have enlightening conversations. But Mars inconjunct Uranus indicates that pushing too hard can lead to anger. This is an accident prone aspect so be mindful with sharp objects, and electricity and do not drive angry. On one side libido, boundary issues, and ambition. On the other the need to let go of the past, to welcome change, and to find freedom where possible. Pay attention to both sides.
Mon 10/2 Mercury opposition Neptune is exact in the morning confusing the clarity of Mercury trine Uranus. The combination however can bring rare inspiration to writing, music and all the creative, mystical and mantic arts. Inspiration can appear suddenly, or come from a dream. Look for the last blush of Venus in Leo and ride the wave of creativity. But editing will probably be required. Fortunately, tomorrow’s Mercury trine Pluto is a good time for light editing.
Tue 10/3 Mercury trine Pluto exact in the late morning reinforces fading Mercury trine Uranus giving us deep insight, serendipitous moments in research, reform and repair, and an understanding of where subtle changes can help us feel and live better. But Venus inconjunct Neptune is exact mid-evening. Venus and Neptune can be so lovely together but here there is the risk that too much escapism or pleasure brings illness or exhaustion. Confusion in matters of love, art, fashion and finance are amplified with this aspect. Avoid making assumptions and jumping to conclusions. Relax and enjoy something beautiful. Be creative but don’t take creative frustrations too seriously.
Wed 10/4 Mercury enters Libra at 5:09 PM and hopefully we’ll all be a little less fussy. Mercury in Virgo is very powerful and helpful but Libra’s romantic inclination for balance and beauty may offer a welcome relief. Communications may become a little less pointy. This is a good week to recall Voltaire’s wise words: “Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.”
Thu 10/5 Mercury inconjunct Saturn is exact mid morning with Mars inconjunct Neptune exact mid-afternoon. This double dose of inconjunctions requires quite a balancing act. First we have on the one side the needs of commuting and communication and on the other we have responsibilities and the need for rest. Mercury inconjunct Saturn can indicate exhaustion and illness caused by over-thinking and worry. Mars inconjunct Neptune gives us on the one side the urgency and aggression of Mars and on the other the fog of Neptune, accidental and deliberate illusions. Here again pushing too hard could result in an especially vicious hangover of one kind or another.
Fri 10/6 Venus inconjunct stationary but still retrograde Pluto is exact around dawn. Yet another inconjunction but not the last of this week, this one has the need for love, pleasure, harmony and beauty on the one side but the ugly reality of the results of neglect or deceit on the other. Love and art may seem overwhelming and hopeless in some cases, especially after 6:48 AM when the dark of the moon begins. Give attention to both sides of the aspect. Take care of what needs to be done but find time for Venus, too.
Sat 10/7 sun inconjunct Saturn is exact in the wee hours. The last inconjunction of this week, but not the last in the series, which continues with three more spread out over next week, here we find sheer ego and will to live versus limitations, exhaustion, facts. Generally people feel less vital when this aspect is around. If we are underfed and haven’t rested enough we may be more susceptible to catching something out there so take care. Don’t let news about current events get to you. Remember Simone de Beauvoir’s ruefully wry words: “If you live long enough, you'll see that every victory turns into a defeat.”
Next Sunday Mars square Pluto will be exact and Venus enters Virgo to begin a week that includes Venus opposition Saturn, Pluto stationary direct, sun opposition Chiron, Mars entering Scorpio, Mercury inconjunct Jupiter, Mercury opposition Chiron, and sun inconjunct Uranus, with a solar eclipse in Libra. Mars trine Saturn indicates a natural tendency to hold steady and pace ourselves despite the chaotic detours, distractions and revelations suggested by the aspects.
Things lighten up until Saturn goes stationary direct in early November. However Pluto stationary in the same degree through all of October will make this an intense month especially because Pluto is stationing right on the U.S. natal Pluto. Another important chapter in America’s Pluto return, the third and last exact conjunction. A station in that degree suggests this be the key moment of this Pluto return. Expect dramatic confrontations with the national shadow, and realizations about how deep the need for reform and repair can go. This week is a good week for practicing the patience and sense of humor needed for the challenges suggested by October’s Pluto station.
