All times Pacific.

Friends, we have before us a week bracketed by inconjunctions. There are few aspects but Mars has begun a roughly four month opposition to stationary Pluto. The hot spots may be 11/3 when Mars opposition Pluto is exact, and the first week of December when Mars is stationary retrograde. But we may feel some relief around 11/19 when Pluto finally leaves Capricorn for almost twenty years of Aquarius. This is an unusually long Mars opposition Pluto due to the Mars station, taking us all the way into mid January 2025, only to return again for most of April. Collectively this can be a time of conflict, power struggles, war, even natural disasters and prominent deaths. This does not mean riots in the streets after the election or a full blown world war. But it does suggest that acrimonious fury will be with us awhile longer. Men in particular, or those who believe men should be the ones in charge, may be frustrated and volatile. That may suggest a Harris victory, though not necessarily, since a win for Plan 2025 would certainly be met with great opposition and hostility from all those who oppose it.

In our own lives we may have to make difficult decisions that require us to use willpower to position ourselves so we can withstand the challenges. Issues around anger, desire, ambition, especially if thwarted or suppressed could erupt in arguments, sickness, or even violence. Here Pluto is working to elevate or evolve Mars. Our ambitions should reflect the greater good. Our desires should be in accord with our deeper needs and with our circumstances. Our anger should be directed toward protecting not exploiting or dominating.

Sunday 10/20 sun inconjunct Neptune is exact in the morning, this can indicate health issues having to do with exhaustion, over sensitivity, intoxication, the classic morning malaise or hangover. It can also indicate a dream that haunts the day but evades interpretation, or even inconvenient inspiration. Take notes. Hydrate yourself. Float along with whatever the day brings. The great Sufi poet Rumi wrote: “This poetry. I never know what I’m going to say. I don’t plan it. When I’m outside the saying of it, I get very quiet and rarely speak at all.”

Mon 10/21 Mercury trine Saturn is exact about a half an hour before midnight. This aspect indicates a good time for organizing, editing, simplifying, studying, practicing, being mentored or mentoring, setting limits and boundaries. A good time to ponder the progress made so far this year and where we might see possible improvements based on facts and results.

Tue 10/22 sun square stationary Pluto is exact not long after dawn. This is an especially powerful Pluto square as Pluto still dwells in the degree of its station. The sun represents our day to day consciousness but also the core of embodied energy. Here Pluto asks us to take steps to refine, reform and repair ourselves and our surroundings. We may have to face fear, obsessions, compulsions, stagnation. We may be asked to do what we strongly wish to avoid, because the alternative is even worse. But if we work with Pluto, if we cultivate tranquility, meditation, regeneration, with a mind to the common good, Pluto can be deeply healing and liberating, empowering us in previously unimagined ways, lifting us into what might be called a higher frequency of our lives.

The sun enters Scorpio at 3:15 in the afternoon, giving us a second dose of Pluto. Pluto indicates the process of alchemy. Some area of our lives may be cooked down to ashes, but if we abide with the process, with an open mind and a heart that knows love we may achieve what the alchemists called the universal medicine. That term can be taken literally, as a cure all for all human ailments, or as a metaphor for achieving the kind of awareness that transcends the vicissitudes of the material world.

Wed 10/23 only lunar aspects are exact. Watch out for moon opposition Pluto in the late evening, with Pluto dwelling in the degree of its station until 11/17 and the sun still closely squaring Pluto hurt feelings, power struggles, obsession, suspicious and deep alienation may be surface. Meditation can calm and clarify our circumstances. If you see areas that require reform or repair find practical ways to address the situation. With Pluto so strong neglect is likely to cause a bigger crisis down the road. Stendhal left us this quote that sheds an interesting light on social media: “To describe happiness is to diminish it.” Is social media where people go to diminish happiness?

Thu 10/24 the dark of the moon begins at 1:03 AM then Mars sextile Uranus is exact in the late afternoon. The dark of the moon indicates seven days which are better for finishing than starting. People may feel they have less energy. An introverted mood is an invitation to self understanding. Don’t try to push the river. Take time to appreciate all that you cherish. Krishnamurti wrote: “Love is the missing factor; there is a lack of affection, of warmth in relationship; and because we lack that love, that tenderness, that generosity, that mercy in relationship, we escape into mass action, which produces further confusion, further misery.”Mars sextile Uranus can liberate passion, lead us to the right tech to make our lives work better in matters related to Mars. Do you need a security system to protect your boundaries? Accoutrements of romance? Or tools to serve ambition? Do some work for a better future for self and others.

Fri 10/25 only lunar aspects are exact. Carlos Fuentes wrote: “Here among my books, my wife, my friends and my loves, I have plenty of reasons to keep living.”

Sat 10/26 Mercury inconjunct Chiron is exact in the hour before midnight. The Mercury inconjunctions this weekend canindicate a couple of days that are not the best timing for romance and communication in general. Mercury inconjunct Chiron is about health issues, often public. We do have at the moment a quiet but burgeoning bacterial pneumonia only beginning to receive coverage. Be careful out there in crowds. Don’t be shy about being cautious.

Sun 10/27 Mercury inconjunct Jupiter is exact just before 2 AM. This aspect can indicate consequences of over-optimism or over-indulgence. We may worry because we are not achieving the success we want. By infusing our conversations with eagerness for knowledge, and feeding the imagination with masterpieces, we may find inspiration. However a kind of flippant arrogance masquerading as wit, or a habit of becoming distracted by the next big story, can lead to awkward communication and lost opportunities. We want to choose our words carefully this weekend. Don’t jump to conclusions. Seek clarification. Ramana Maharshi said: “The greatest error of a man is to think that he is weak by nature, evil by nature. Every man is divine and strong in his real nature. What are weak and evil are his habits, his desires and thoughts, but not himself.”

From here we have only nine days until the election, and only two weeks until Pluto leaves Capricorn to spend almost twenty years in Aquarius. If I may remind you again Pluto is currently in the final degree of Capricorn. The final degree of any sign represents endings, culmination, collapse, pessimism, crisis. The final degree of Saturn ruled Capricorn can be especially bleak. Pluto has been at 29 Capricorn since 9/3. We’ve been in a kind of time warp of anticipation that continues until 11/17. This is the end of a cycle that began in 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn. What happened in 2008? The Great Recession, which is a mild name for a world wide economic crisis. But also the election of Obama. Russia invaded the country of Georgia while America continued to be mired in Iraq. As we have seen Pluto in Capricorn historically speaking has been a bleak and challenging time. We’re also at a key moment of the US Pluto return and this election can be seen as a test of what exactly America is made of. Next year more big changes. Be patient with the present. The future will not be as terrible as it may seem from the perspective of Pluto stuck in the 29th degree of Capricorn.
