All times Pacific.
Friends, we have before us the week of Saturn stationary direct. Pluto still dwells in the degree of its station until 11/19. Saturn stays in the degree of its station through November. When both are stationary we have a time of tension, damning judgements of others, deep pessimism, apocalyptic feelings, and a manic desire to force everyone to conform to a particular point of view. Exhaustion, and even illness can result. At least until 11/19 take it easy, take care. Saturn Pluto can also help us to attain quality meditation, to adjust life course, and to learn difficult lessons that help us transform so that we are more in alignment with our missions and our potential.
With Mars opposing Pluto for the rest of the year and on into 2025 we’ll want to avoid irate people, power struggles, and lashing out. Drive carefully. Don’t let frustration or chronic apprehension turn into a pattern of angry reactions. Speaking of which, in my area, the day after the election I saw a number of Latina women reading the riot act to Latino men in public. In many families, at school, and at work, the hostility exasperated by this election will no doubt simmer, perhaps for years, but certainly while Mars continues to oppose Pluto.
Now, folks, we want to stay informed, but we don’t want to get sucked into four more years of reacting to every crazy thing that is said and done while ignoring the good things that can happen. Without minimizing the danger of trying to guess whether a president was sincerely joking about being a dictator, no administration is exempt from blame. Having worked with Tamra to bring artists to key counties in swing states to help elect Obama in 2008 I wound up producing a documentary with Edward James Olmos about Obama’s terrible policy of deporting Mexicans who were brought to America as small children by their parents. Because they knew no one in Mexico they were forced to live in Zona Norte, in the sewers next to a slum controlled by a cartel. You can watch the documentary here. The film was censored in America, not officially, but effectively. Fortunately it inspired a Mexican billionaire to help the poor souls trapped in a no man’s land created by a short sighted policy. The nature of governments, like that of the human beings who create them, is to be imperfect.
Sunday 11/10 only lunar aspects are exact, but with Saturn stationary direct this week moon conjunct Saturn tonight can indicate exhaustion and depression, but also study, practice, learning lessons, developing skills. Venus square Neptune exact yesterday indicates available artistic inspiration, compassion in romance, mystical love but also confusion in relationships, lies and misunderstandings, perhaps complicated by over intoxication? Consider capturing those Saturn feelings in art, music, writing, film, or memes. Jean Houston wrote: “I firmly believe that all human beings have access to extraordinary energies and powers. Judging from accounts of mystical experience, heightened creativity, or exceptional performance by athletes and artists, we harbor a greater life than we know.”
Mon 11/11 Veteran’s Day begins with sun inconjunct Jupiter just after 3 AM followed by moon square Jupiter. Don’t over indulge on Sunday night, especially late at night, and this Veteran’s Day is not a time to celebrate by getting plastered, not with Saturn nearly stationary. Venus leaves vivacious Sagittarius for chilly but loyal Capricorn. Relationships might cool off. Some may find they want more time to themselves. This aspect symbolizes a possibly awkward holiday of cold shoulders from disappointed sisters, girlfriends, wives and mothers. A favorable time for editing creative work. Sun inconjunct Chiron in the early afternoon is another indication of issues around health. The kind of stress people have been experiencing can be debilitating. Be sure to eat and rest well.
Tue 11/12 Mercury square Saturn is exact not long before dawn, indicating critical thinking, conversations about limits and lessons, pessimism, and exhaustion. But this is a good aspect for editing, for studying and practicing, for mentoring or being mentored. Also good for organizing and simplifying. If you feel inclined to dig into the post mortem or prognostication of things to come this is perhaps a good time to it. Avoid criticizing self and others in an effort to shift responsibility. Freud wrote: “Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.”
Wed 11/13 only lunar aspects are exact. Certainly many are surprised that a candidate who talked about envying Hitler his generals and who appeared to mimic fellating a microphone could win an election, but remember what Napoleon said: “In politics stupidity is not a handicap.”
Thu 11/14 Venus inconjunct Mars is exact. Astrologers have joked about this being the “I have a headache” aspect. Usually Venus Mars aspects, even squares and oppositions, can have a sexual friction, but here the connection is not made. It’s important to see both sides of any matter. Don’t emphasize one point of view over the other because that can lead to acting out due to unexpressed frustrations and neglected needs. We want to be avoiding risks if possible, with Saturn stationary tomorrow, and Pluto still in the degree of its station consequences tend to be harsh.
Fri 11/15 Saturn is stationary direct at 8:20 AM followed by the full moon in Taurus at 1:28 PM. Stay home and cultivate a feeling of comfort so as to feel more secure. Know when to say no. Accept endings but also keep an eye open for beginnings. Get some rest. Take a hard look at the facts when it comes to where you’ve been and where you think you’re going. Is there a need to change direction or make adjustments to habits? A good time to give up bad habits or at least diminish them. Meditation can be especially powerful this month, especially this week. Regain tranquility and reconnect with nature.
Sat 11/16 the sun opposes Uranus indicating accident prone behavior, detours, and interruptions on the one hand, but also the opportunity to free yourself of habits or judgements about yourself and others that hold you back and drain your energy. This aspect can indicate an unnecessary sense of urgency, and anxiousness about the future. Return to where you are in the moment. For the most part the mind doesn’t solve these problems, it imagines alarming outcomes. If we must make a study of possible futures so that we can plan ahead, we can try to avoid the urge to rely on quick looks and assumptions. On the other hand what we’re looking for might appear unexpectedly at the right time, if we have earned it by learning our lessons well, and putting them into practice.
Sun 11/17 only lunar aspects are exact. 11/19 Pluto returns to Aquarius for nearly twenty years. The new administration with tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel on board will be advancing innovations that will no doubt reflect Pluto in Aquarius themes of scientific discovery and technological revolution. We may see much needed modernization in many areas of life. AI and robots are only the beginning. Clearly, from federal debt to healthcare, immigration to bureaucracy, America needs an update. We may not agree with the updates that will be made but they can be adjusted or replaced later. Historically Pluto in Aquarius has not been kind to autocrats, oligarchs and repressive traditionalists. More about that here: Pluto in Aquarius, and here: Astrology of the U.S. Pluto Return 2017–2025.
Meanwhile we are seeing fear among women, immigrants, people of color, and already my feed reflects abominable behavior by those feeling empowered to bully others. Be there for your friends. Use your skills and your creativity to open doors not to close them. Build community. Provide an example of how to love, how to care, how to defend those who can’t defend themselves, how to hold on to what is true.
