Dawn Over Los Angeles #11 photo by Tamra Lucid

All times Pacific.

Friends, we have two weeks ahead of us of few aspects, but we do have some important astrological events. March provided a lull, despite the tension in the air. Perhaps we see what needs to be done but have not been able to break free from entanglements that obstruct us. April is a different story. With Jupiter approaching conjunction with Uranus we can expect some big changes collectively and individually, or at least clear messages about areas of difficulty and new opportunities. The surprises April promises can help us overcome the malaise of the last few years.

Easter Sunday 3/31 only lunar aspects are exact. As Christians celebrate spring we can all join in with appreciation for the end of winter. Every dawn invites awakening. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new. As Sartre wrote: “There is only one day left, always starting over: it is given to us at dawn and taken away from us at dusk.”

Mon 4/1 Mercury retrograde in Aries. begins at 3:14 PM and lasts until 4/25. It’s said to indicate confusion, delays, and misunderstandings. A time better for finishing projects than beginning them. We may be going back over ground we thought we had covered. Some advice for Mercury retrograde. Don’t assume the worst. Have a plan B and maybe a plan C when traveling. Ask questions. Expect that you may be misunderstood. Don’t dwell on the past. But it is said to be a good time for introvert activities, for learning, resting, healing, and recharging. Mercury in Aries indicates fresh thinking, starting anew, leaving behind the past, but also aggressive communications. Wasting it on arguments that go nowhere may be entertaining but this Mercury retrograde can be used to regenerate the mental atmosphere we create with every thought.

Tue 4/2 only lunar aspects are exact. As Camus wrote: “Basically, at the very bottom of life, which seduces us all, there is only absurdity, and more absurdity. And maybe that’s what gives us our joy for living, because the only thing that can defeat absurdity is lucidity.”

Wed 4/3 Venus conjunct Neptune is exact before dawn. Here is an opportunity for the grand inspiration in music, the arts, romance and all matters related to beauty and harmony. This can indicate viewing love interests through an idealizing or idolizing haze. In romance there can be intense psychic connections, but also romantic moments that are intoxicating, and possibly intoxicated. This aspect is with us all week so let’s make time for inspiration, imagination and the appreciation of the beautiful details of life that are easily ignored and forgotten. Eternity glows in simple moments. Taking care of a houseplant, for example, can refresh the soul. As we replenish another we replenish ourselves.

Thu 4/4 Venus enters Aries at 9PM, beginning a new cycle around the zodiac. The last cycle began 2/19 in 2023. How did our experience of Venus change during that time? How are relationships going, especially romantic? Creativity good? Did we take time to enjoy the beautiful and the harmonious? How are we getting along with women and other representatives of Venus? How can we bring more Venus into our lives?

Fri 4/5 only lunar aspects are exact. As Gandhi wrote: “Where there is love there is life.” Does that sound trite? It’s actually the key to living well, and to what people call magic.

Sat 4/6 Venus sextile Pluto is exact in the morning. Love and creativity can heal us. We can transform our lives by gaining a greater understanding of our fears and our shadows. Libido may tend to the taboo with this aspect. It can also indicate a time when music and art, romance and friendship can help us find healing. Use art to express those painful memories and anxious apprehensions. Write them down, turn them into music, paint them, find images that represent how you feel and make a video. The goal isn’t to get clicks, it’s to express how you really feel with complete honesty, if to no one else then to yourself.

Sun 4/7 only lunar aspects are exact. Surrealist writer Andre Breton wrote: “There is nothing with which it is so dangerous to take liberties as liberty itself.” That applies to everything from recreation to politics.

Mon 4/8 the new moon solar eclipse at 11:21 AM is followed by sun conjunct Chiron exact seven minutes later. Solar eclipses are said to represent beginnings, but of course wherever there are beginnings there are endings. This solar eclipse, in the middle of Aries, and conjunct Chiron, would seem to indicate a crisis in the area of collective and personal healing that is actually a fresh start. This would be a good time to cleanse, fast, clean up the diet, do yoga, and otherwise take advantage of the unusual opportunity for improving health. A cure of some kind might be announced, or it might show its first promise in a lab somewhere, beginning the process that will bring it to maturity over the next twenty years of Pluto in Aquarius.

Tue 4/9 only lunar aspects are exact. The Russian mystical author Solovyov wrote: “True spiritual love is not a feeble imitation and anticipation of death, but a triumph over death, not a separation of the immortal form from the mortal, of the eternal from the temporal, but a transfiguration of the mortal into the immortal, the acceptance of the temporal into the eternal.”

Wed 4/10 Mars sextile Saturn is exact in the early afternoon indicating a good time for organizing our efforts so they are more effective. This can be a hard work aspect, good for finishing chores. Chores are not drudgery, they’re the avoidance of harm. This aspect is said to be good for spring cleaning, setting boundaries, and learning and practicing physical and martial exercises.

Thu 4/11 sun conjunct Mercury retrograde in the late afternoon. With sun and Mercury in Aries watch out for sudden arguments, jumping to conclusions, or putting so much ego into communications it ruins their intent. Aries is a freedom loving sign. We can use this conjunction to free ourselves from the judgements and entanglements of others. Patti Smith wrote: “To me, punk rock is the freedom to create, freedom to be successful, freedom to not be successful, freedom to be who you are. It’s freedom.”

Fri 4/12, Sat 4/13, Sun 4/14 only lunar aspects are exact. The poet Rimbaud wrote: “I have stretched ropes from steeple to steeple; garlands from window to window; golden chains from star to star, and I dance.”
