Friends, Sunday’s the big day. Uranus stationary retrograde at 8:18 AM followed by Pluto retrograde returning to Capricorn at 5:10 PM. These two major shifts will define the election and will remain in effect until Pluto returns to Capricorn 10/11 and Uranus goes direct in 2025. Uranus has brought great changes and now will go back over the terrain previously traversed to more thoroughly dismantle the fading order. Because Uranus is by definition unexpected we can’t be sure what’s up. A Christian Dominionist coup? A liberal progressive agenda? A shocking invention? Whatever happens, the emergence of a freer and more diverse vision of society and culture is inevitable with Pluto in Aquarius for twenty years. But will there be in the short term a sharp turn away from all that as Pluto reenters Capricorn?

As we’ve seen, with Pluto in the final degree of Capricorn this is not the 2008 or 2016 Pluto in Capricorn, this is the undoing of all that. Pluto in Capricorn brought us an era of old leaders, authoritarian elites, divided politics, persistent economic hardship, challenging weather, crumbling institutions, and widespread pessimism, as it historically always has. But that last degree signifies culmination and disintegration. Political platforms aside there is only one presidential candidate visibly crumbling before our eyes. Go look at him speaking in 2016 and compare that to the present version. The GOP’s constant faux-pas, deliberate transgressive aggressions, and grandiose fantasies are signs of desperation. America has been confronted before by efforts to impose religious authority on the people and has consistently rejected it. Even the most conservative American regimes endured vital countercultures and suffered ultimate defeat of their agendas. With Pluto in Aquarius, where it was during the American Revolution, any imposed tyranny will not last long.

With 8 lunar and 3 planetary inconjunctions, and Mars inconjunct Pluto dominating, this week could be frustrating. Health issues may require attention. Inconjunctions represent two areas of life that seem to exclude each other. The tendency is to favor one but then the other becomes a problem. Balance is key. By respecting both areas we can not only avoid trouble but also improve well being. Manly Palmer Hall had the great habit of refreshing himself by taking on a different activity. He might write all morning about alchemists in Rudolf’s Prague but as he tired of the subject he would switch to an article for his journal about the spiritual dimension of the Japanese art of Bonsai. This is how he was able to be so prolific. He often worked on three or four projects daily.

Monday 9/2 Mercury trine Chiron is exact in the morning. This is a good time to improve health by improving our habits. Research and conversation about healing is favored. Any kind of crisis associated to health can best be addressed now through communication which can provide helpful insights. The new moon arrives at 6:56 PM but we may want to take it easy with fresh starts and new projects as Mars square Neptune is exact in the evening, indicating the potential for confusion, and false starts. A balance must be found between energy and force on the one hand and imagination and compassion on the other. Enjoy the propaganda explosion, if you can’t laugh at it, perhaps look elsewhere. There are all sorts of creative ways to participate in this very important election. Women are sharing post-it notes in restrooms telling other women when you vote no one is looking over your shoulder. How you vote is your choice. Vote for a better future for your daughters and granddaughters. Most women understand one candidate defends the rights of women and the other is abusive to women. Each of us can ask ourselves if there is some way we could encourage someone else to do the right thing.

Tue 9/3 only lunar aspects are exact. Beethoven left us this sage advice in a letter he wrote to his brother. “Recommend virtue to your children; it alone, not money, can make them happy. I speak from experience.”

Wed 9/4 Mars inconjunct Pluto is exact in the late morning then Mars enters Cancer at 12:46 PM. Here we may have an indication of health issues related to anger, ambition, frustration, the desire to force one’s will on situations that can’t be dealt with that way. Don’t ignore the need for repairs in your environment as they can get out of hand if neglected. Be extra careful commuting as erratic driving and road rage are more common with Mars Pluto aspects. Be sure to take time to consider the common good. Pluto confronts us with impermanence. Mars wants to make a mark on the world. Too often this aspect leads people to impulsive actions intended to take by force what can only be patiently earned. By respecting both Mars and Pluto, actions become more effective, individually and collectively. Mars is not comfortable in Cancer where the driving Mars urges become fogged up and bogged down in emotional currents. Ambitions sacrificed for family. Responsibilities at home getting in the way of getting out there and doing something energetic.

Thu 9/5 only lunar aspects are exact. V.S. Naipal wrote: “The longer I live the more convinced I become that one of the greatest honors we can confer on other people is to see them as they are, to recognize not only that they exist, but that they exist in specific ways and have specific realities.”

Fri 9/6 Mercury square Uranus is exact in the evening, a nervous and erratic aspect that can be put to work but effort is required. Shocking conversations, disruptive but liberating tech, nervous preoccupations, unexpected moves in traffic, are some ways to visualize the astrological weather this square indicates. There can be an unnecessary sense of urgency, or an eagerness to speed through our experiences to get to what makes us feel free. Stay calm and aware. Be clear about what’s going on around you. We could even have flashes of insight that change how we think about ourselves and the world. Remember, when things get agitated it may be time to flow in another direction.

Sat 9/7 sun opposition Saturn is exact in the evening and can indicate exhaustion, depression, ego versus authority, the sense that summer is over and the year felt short. On the other hand it’s a great time for meditation, study, practice, rest, serious consideration of important matters, and listening carefully to the requirements of any given situation. Avoid us against them scenarios if at all possible. With Pluto back in Capricorn it’s likely there will be a collective malaise tangible by the end of this week.

Sun 9/8 brings a grand finale of inconjunctions. First, Mercury inconjunct Neptune is exact during the witching hour (3 to 4 AM) followed by Mercury inconjunct Pluto in the evening, and Mars inconjunct Pluto is still in effect. Mercury inconjunct Neptune can indicate confused thinking, mistaken facts, propaganda, gaslighting, and collective concerns regarding contagious threats. Watching a movie or enjoying a mystical read might be more helpful than empathic conversations that leave the participants exhausted. Mercury inconjunct Pluto again confronts us with impermanence, with glimpses of the ruthless truth, or criminal manipulation. Healing is possible but we must patiently sort through the artifacts of the shadows of self and others. Mercury enters Virgo two minutes before midnight giving greater analytic precision, the possibility of more accurate communication, but also the danger of unnecessary worry or relentless perfectionism. A good placement for organizing, cleaning, learning, perfecting, practical arrangements and business negotiations. Mercury will be in Virgo until 9/27. Leonardo da Vinci wrote: “Men of lofty genius sometimes accomplish the most when they work least, for their minds are occupied with their ideas and the perfection of their conceptions, to which they afterwards give form.”
