Star Weather Astrology Report 9/29 to 10/6

We have before us a fairly quiet week astrologically speaking, but not without challenges. Two big changes occur the following week when Jupiter is stationary retrograde and Pluto stationary direct. These stations are already palpable. Also this week a series of inconjunctions could indicate frustrating disconnects in areas where we’d like to see progress, and it can also indicate health issues. Saturn is a recurring theme this week so take it easy, simplify, streamline, seek mentorship, learn and practice, get rest, establish good habits, limit bad ones.
Sunday 9/29 Mars trine Saturn is exact in the evening indicating energy available for organizing, getting rid of clutter, for exercising or setting up a new schedule. Learning, practice and mentorship can help us use our energy more effectively. Healthy competition involves appreciation and inspiration. The unhealthy kind sits in judgement of others. Plan with the long view in mind when it comes to ambition, desire, or defending your boundaries. Sometimes it’s more important to know when not to act. In The Secret of the Golden Flower a 17th c. Chinese Daoist alchemical text the soul is said to leak consciousness. “In a single day one breathes countless times, so has countless random thoughts. When the luminosity of spirit has leaked out completely, one is like a withered tree or dead ashes.”
Mon 9/30 sun conjunct Mercury is exact making it easy to express personal perspective but sometimes putting too much ego into our communications. This aspect indicates a time when it seems easier to pay attention to detail. Along with yesterday’s trine this can help us get our little corners of the universe in better order. Research and sincere conversations can help us make better choices before we take action.
Tue 10/1 only lunar aspects are exact. Plato wrote in the Phaedrus: “Soul universally cares for the soulless and ranges throughout all heaven passing into various forms. So, when it is perfect and winged, it voyages aloft and governs the whole Cosmos, but the soul which loses its wings falls till it meets some solid thing which it takes to inhabit.”
Wed 10/2 the new moon solar eclipse in Libra arrives 11:49 AM. For those with planets or angles in mid-Libra and mid-Aries this could be a time of significant changes. Something new may begin that opens our horizons to further possibilities. Something may end that has been holding us back, or that we have been clinging to. Look for opportunities but also messages about where you need to give more attention to neglected areas of life. This solar eclipse occurs conjunct America’s Saturn. We could see the death of an important elder, the end of a once reliable institution, or the clear demarcation between how things were and how they are about to be. With the vice presidential debate scheduled for the night before we could see a candidate run into a brick wall, metaphorically speaking.
Thu 10/3 Mercury inconjunct Saturn is exact in the late evening, the first of three Saturn aspects immediately following the eclipse on the US natal Saturn. This one can indicate confused communications, lapses, censorship, but also nervous problems caused by exhaustion or frustrated attempts to control the message. In our own lives this aspect can help us find the small adjustments we can make now to avoid bigger problems later.
Fri 10/4 Venus trine Saturn is exact in the late morning. Progress for women and all other Venus creatures and their allies is indicated, especially when well organized, historically informed, and mentored by experienced leadership. In our own lives it’s important to give loved ones space, to demonstrate loyalty. A great aspect for editing creative projects. Victor Hugo wrote: “Life is the flower for which love is the honey.”
Sat 10/5 Mercury square Mars is exact in the late evening, potentially indicating an argumentative atmosphere over the weekend, but also energized perhaps by attraction. Listen carefully. Ask questions before taking offense. Try not to speak too sharply, especially when criticizing another or yourself.
Sun 10/6 sun inconjunct Saturn will be exact in the late morning, sometimes indicating exhaustion physical and emotional. If we feel we have been thwarted too many times, or that unreasonable limitations and authorities impinge on the sense of self, on daily needs, it could be time for meditation. Simplify and remember that even drudgery can be sacred when we realize it is really prevention of harm. Kahlil Gibran wrote: “To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life’s path.”
The following week features Jupiter stationary retrograde on 10/9 and Pluto stationary direct on 10/11. Pluto has been retrograde since 5/11. You might want to take a look at what was going on then. Pluto has a way of raising issues until they are repaired or reformed. Pluto has dwelled in the degree of its station since 9/2. When the outer planets, especially Pluto, dwell in the degree of their station there can be a sense of stagnation, of doldrums, of a crisis or a series of them slowly building. As the tension increases people can become frustrated and irritable, even violent when it’s Pluto. So take care.
Magnifying the effect is Pluto dwelling in the final degree of Capricorn. This indicates the end of one zeitgeist and the beginning of another. Often accompanied by crisis this process may be challenging but the rewards of taking it on include healing, serenity, rebirth, evolution. Whatever challenges arise find ways to use them for self improvement rather than being used by them. The grind of the suspense of the approaching elections promises to be excruciating. Know when to take a break, and when and how to refresh yourself.
Keep in mind that we are near the end of some very long cycles. Saturn was last in Pisces in 1996. Uranus was last in Taurus in 1942. Neptune was last in Pisces in 1862. Pluto was last in Capricorn in 1778. For now we still have Saturn in Pisces (since March 2023), Uranus in Taurus (since May 2018), Neptune in Pisces (since 2011) and Pluto in Capricorn (since 2008). All that is about to change.
Pluto returns to Aquarius 11/19/2024 where it will stay for almost twenty years. This is a big change from Pluto in Capricorn. You can find out more about that here where I go into depth about the historical precedents. Neptune will enter Aries at the end of March 2025, though it will return to Pisces for several months before sojourning in Aries until 2038, an even bigger change in some ways since it’s the beginning of a new Neptune cycle around the zodiac. Goodbye to the past. Talk about a change in zeitgeist! Uranus enters Gemini in July 2025, returns to Taurus for several months, then in April 2026 reenters Gemini until 2033. Last but not least Saturn also completes a circle around the zodiac and gets a fresh start when it enters Aries in May 2025, stays through summer, but then returns to Pisces for fall and the beginning of winter. Saturn returns to Aries on 2/13/2026 until April 2028.
Let’s compare:
Now: Saturn and Neptune in Pisces: all about endings. Pluto in Capricorn: hard times and pessimism, clinging to the past. Uranus in Taurus: lack of stability seemingly anywhere, one sided stubbornness.
Then: Saturn and Neptune get fresh starts in Aries. Pluto in Aquarius: shocking progress and optimism, reaching for the future. Uranus in Gemini: brilliant and curious, sees both sides of issues.
The world will look very different beginning next year, so let’s make time for simple pleasures and enjoy the world we have now, which before long will look rather quaint. Let’s patiently and playfully hone in on what we want to do in the future. What kind of changes would we like to see?
