Sun 8/13 sun conjunct Venus is exact before dawn, with lovely lunar aspects all day, a good time for art and romance, appreciation and creativity, beauty and harmony, and adoring Aphrodite. Venus trine Chiron tomorrow reminds us that love, harmony and beauty can heal us. As the Flower Adornment Sutra states about the Buddhas: “They observe all opportunities and affinities, first they protect others’ minds, calming them, showing all sentient beings the place of peace; this is the path traveled by the skillful. One light illumines boundlessly, filling all lands in the ten directions, causing all worlds to gain great brightness: this is the path of the darkness destroyers.”
Mon 8/14 Venus trine Chiron is exact. Express love. Create harmony. Appreciate beauty. Take note of where you put your attention. It’s good to know the news. It’s not good to doom scroll. It’s good to enjoy the morbid and shocking but not exclusively. Knowing how you feel about yourself and others is good. Dwelling on discouragement, envy or criticism of self and others is not good. As Chinua Achebelt wrote: “If you don’t like someone’s story, write your own”
Beauty and love are made to seem trivial in the traumatized culture we inhabit but there are great powers of transformation and healing. We’re here to learn the laws of existence and consequences but we are also here to learn to love; not the indiscriminate theoretical brotherhood of man dear to the hearts of con men but the real power of love. It’s worth quoting Maya Angelou again although I used this quote last week: “Love heals. Heals and liberates. I use the word love, not meaning sentimentality, but a condition so strong that it may be that which holds the stars in their heavenly positions and that which causes the blood to flow orderly in our veins.”
Tue 8/15 sun square Uranus is exact. This can be an exasperating aspect but has the potential to be liberating, especially with Mars trine Uranus exact tomorrow. Often indicating detours, interruptions, surprises and even shocks, it can indicate accident prone tendencies especially if we feel there is nothing new in our lives, not enough excitement, or we feel imprisoned in the past without hope for the future. By observing carefully and making the effort we may find opportunities to bring greater freedom to some part of our lives. As Elias Canetti wrote: “Words are not too old, only people are too old if they use the same words too frequently.”
Wed 8/16 the new moon in Leo arrives at 2:38 AM. Mars trine Uranus is exact about an hour after dawn. In the late morning Mercury inconjunct Chiron is exact. The Leo new moon brings the glow of summer and refreshes our energy, especially with an invigorating Mars trine Uranus later in the morning. The trine can help us put in the necessary work to free ourselves. Not a good time to try to repress or suppress that need for the new or different. Look for ways to integrate a fresh perspective, thereby avoiding unnecessary collateral damage that can erupt when Mars and Uranus are ignored in favor of repetition and resignation. Mercury inconjunct Chiron can indicate news about public health crisis. With Mars opposition Neptune almost exact and sun inconjunct Pluto exact on Monday we could be hearing news about the pandemic again. We do have a new variant circulating thought it isn’t significantly different. As always find your own comfort level and ignore peer pressure. Avoid people who have a problem with your personal choices. It’s their problem, don’t let them make it yours.
Thu 8/17, Fri 8/18 and Sat 8/19 only lunar aspects are exact. As Camus wrote: “The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.” The same can be said of fear.
Sun 8/20 sun inconjunct Neptune is exact just after midnight. This aspect can indicate exhaustion and even infection, confusion is not uncommon, and caution is advised since we have all the many Mars aspects of August filling the atmosphere with energy that can easily turn to anger, especially when our urges are frustrated or our boundaries violated. With sun inconjunct Pluto exact Monday and Mars opposition Neptune on Tuesday take care and avoid unnecessary risks. Not a good time for pushing forward projects. Better for taking good care of ourselves and building health and strength physically and spiritually. Mercury retrograde returns 8/23 lasting until 9/15.
Uranus will be stationary retrograde 8/28 and will be growing in strength daily. Expect surprises, shocking news, delays, detours, disruption, breakthroughs in science, and epic acting out in the name of FREEDOM. In our own lives we want to be looking at where we may have fallen into familiar ruts. The human brain is wired in a way that makes us prefer suffering if it is familiar, because the familiarity gives us the illusion of a feeling of control. Uranus is here to liberate us, especially from the iron grip of Saturn. Life is our teacher, as Manly Hall used to say, so look for lessons about liberation and the future. Let go of the past. Feel free in the present moment. As William Faulkner wrote: “We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.”
