All times Pacific.

Friends, this is an important week, astrologically speaking. We made it through the two eclipses and the two comets and now we’re nearing the end of 2024 and even sooner the end of Pluto in Capricorn in mid-November.

Two planets will station this week, that is they will appear to stop as they seem to reverse direction, a trick of optics. When planets station we can expect a more intense experience with corresponding issues. Jupiter stationary retrograde puts the focus on the economy, inflation, court cases. Territory already covered may have to be covered again. There can be reversals that require patience and course adjustment. Pluto stationary retrograde in the final degree of Capricorn is an indicator of major changes and possibly of one or more dramatic events. As mentioned before the last degree of any sign is a culmination, a collapse or a quantum leap, possibly both. That we are at the end of an era should become clear as events play out. Expecting the worst is so Pluto in Capricorn, give equal time to expecting a change for the better.

We have four planetary and six lunar inconjunctions this week. Eat well. Get rest. Pay attention to discomforts that might be messages about changing habits. Don’t get frustrated when you’re working on one thing and something seemingly unrelated interrupts, let go and switch over. It’s a good skill to work on. Pessoa wrote: “Life is an experimental journey undertaken involuntarily. It is a journey of the spirit through the material world and, since it is the spirit that travels, it is the spirit that is experienced. That is why there exist contemplative souls who have lived more intensely, more widely, more tumultuously than others who have lived their lives purely externally.”

Sunday 10/6 sun inconjunct Saturn is exact in the late morning. Hangover regrets? Mired in doubts or apprehension? When human beings don’t get enough sleep, or when we doom scroll, especially when we’ve suffered trauma at some point in our lives, we tend to catastrophize about anything that comes along. We can find the dark cloud behind every silver lining. It would be a good Sunday to get extra rest. Take care of some chores if you can, but perhaps declare a moratorium on drudgery and chill for a day. On the other hand drudgery can be a meditation and a ritual of prevention of harm.

Mon 10/7 only lunar aspects are exact. “Our body and mind have the capacity to heal themselves if we allow them to rest. Stopping, calming, and resting are preconditions for healing”. Thich Nhat Hanh

Tue 10/8 Venus trine Mars is exact in the witching hour between 3 and 4 AM followed by Mercury trine Jupiter in the early morning before dawn, then Mercury opposition Chiron is exact in the evening. The trines can indicate romantic pleasure but also artistic. Put some energy into love or creativity. A conversation could open the way to opportunity. Instead of consuming pessimism find a reason for optimism. The opposition demands that we take health considerations as seriously as our romantic and creative pursuits. An opportunity for healing might be found in a conversation, an online chat, or a book. Paracelsus, the philosopher of medicine who famously walked the pages of the book of nature with his feet wrote: “From time immemorial artistic insights have been revealed to artists in their sleep and in dreams, so that at all times they ardently desired them.” Dreams have also revealed ways to heal. Among the ancients there were temples meant to incubate healing dreams.

Wed 10/9 Jupiter is stationary retrograde at 12:05 AM. Optimism may slip along with Jupiter. Cross currents of war and weather crisis will continue to influence distribution and markets. Not a good astrological event for get rich quick schemes. Success will require patience and review of the course of the situation up till now. The approaching election may roil the markets. Unexpected economic numbers may be surprisingly good but election stress may curb enthusiasm about an improving economy. In our own lives we may be feeling frustrated that we haven’t achieved the goal that matters most to us, but this is not the time to urgently push ahead. Retrogrades seem to prefer introspection. Sagittarius and Gemini sun or rising people may want to resist the urge to force a way forward, especially with Pluto stationary.

Thu 10/10 Venus inconjunct Jupiter, with Jupiter nearly sextile Chiron, is exact in the early morning. Next Venus inconjunct Chiron is exact late morning. Both of these aspects are indicators of the results of over indulgence, so moderation is especially helpful this week. With Venus involved in both inconjunctions issues around love, art, creativity, fashion, close friendships, women and other children of Venus may be exasperated by over optimism, excess, or awkward joviality. There is an opportunity for healing but it’s a balancing act involving seemingly incompatible areas of life. Jupiter sextile Chiron could indicate an opportunity for healing in relationships and perhaps solutions for long term issues. Paracelsus wrote: “We are fooling away our time with outward and perishing things, and are asleep in regard to that which is real within ourselves”

Fri 10/11 Mercury inconjunct Uranus late morning followed by Pluto stationary direct at 5:34 PM could make this a nervous day. The inconjunction can be irritable, erratic and accident prone so take care when commuting and communicating. Pluto stations are long lasting and not necessarily most intense when exact. They can indicate crisis if there is an area of neglect, or if needed reforms or repairs have been ignored for too long. Since this station is in the last degree of Capricorn we can expect some dramatic endings, but also new beginnings. Pluto stationary during the U.S. Pluto return marks this as a time of historical turning points. The combination of Jupiter and Pluto stationary could indicate war. So could Saturn and Neptune entering Aries next year. But we can hope for Saturn to restrain Neptune’s ideological surge and for Neptune to soften Saturn’s severity. How about focusing on someone or something you love instead of expecting disaster? We have a great opportunity to learn how to handle suspense and apprehension. We can do what we can and we can stay informed without surrendering to compulsive speculation. Rely on meditation, even ten minutes of quiet can do us good.

Sat 10/12 Jupiter sextile Chiron is exact about half an hour after midnight. Emphasized by Jupiter stationary this sextile indicates the possibility of significant healing, and a healing of optimism perhaps. There could be good news related to public health or breakthroughs in the medical field, in diplomacy or politics. For some suffering chronic conditions healing could begin by following Ficino’s advice to counter overmuch Saturn with Jupiter. That means daring to be jovial despite the challenges. It means casting a generous eye on the present despite apprehensions about the future. Mercury inconjunct Neptune is exact not long before dawn adding to the confusion. This could indicate a puzzling dream that haunts the dreamer but escapes interpretation. Be careful commuting, especially with Mercury square Pluto exact tomorrow. Spaced out drivers could switch to road rage in the flash of a finger. Misunderstandings might be avoided in some cases by asking questions when unsure. These Mercury aspects might be captured best by writing, or having a conversation that at first confuses you then changes your mind, or someone else’s.

Sun 10/13 Mercury squares Pluto in the early morning then enters Scorpio at 12:23 PM a double shot of Pluto since Pluto rules Scorpio. We still have Mercury inconjunct Neptune very much in the picture but now Mars square Chiron is exact in the early afternoon as well, followed by Sun opposition Chiron exact in the early evening. Chiron can indicate healing but usually through crisis. It would seem we might be in store for some news about public health. With Neptune involved it could be about contamination, consequences of flooding, or new variants of whatever is going around. Pluto stationary tells us for most of us this is not a good time for risk taking, reckless disregard, or over-optimism. Sun trine Jupiter is exact mid-evening, however, urging us to be more optimistic and to see the occasional good news, and the individual and collective opportunities that continue around us. As Virginia Woolf wrote: “You cannot find peace by avoiding life.” By making wise choices this week we can avoid trouble while still making progress.
