- What is the measure of your spirituality? Does it provide you with solace and guidance during this difficult time? Or have your thoughts and emotions run away with your consciousness? Now is the time to deepen practice. Are you judgmental of others? Does fear overrule faith and reason in your psyche? Can you find in your depths the tranquility to face whatever comes with the poise of an awakened soul, or are you just one of many bodies driven by panic? Meditation, prayer, the study of sacred texts, are the time honored means to improve spiritual connectedness.
- Finding the time is often a challenge when it comes to creativity, physical fitness, and spiritual practice. Because of this crisis many of us have more time on our hands. It could be two weeks, it may be months, no one really knows. What could you accomplish during this enforced hiatus? What could you learn? What could you create? How fit could you get? Can you see a better future for yourself and others and prepare for it? Can you improve your relationships? What do you value most? How can hard work now improve your life when this crisis is over?
- Plato said “True philosophy is preparation for death.” Among Tibetan Buddhists and practitioners of Bon the goal of life is to escape the wheel of suffering. One can only do so in a human body. Human bodies are not easy to earn among the teeming vehicles of karma. Hearing the true teachings is even more rare. Dying properly is rarest of all. If we can’t control our fears and compulsive speculation regarding this crisis, how will we remain calm and conscious upon dissolution of the body? Can you use fear, doubt and frustration to feed your hunger for enlightenment?
